Final approval has been given from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) and the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) for the acquisition of Kalamazoo’s Gonzo’s Biggdogg Brewing (GBDB) by Saugatuck Brewing Company (SBC) of Douglas, MI.
“We could not be more excited and honored to finally be an official part of Kalamazoo,” says Ric Gillette, President & CEO of SBC.
Saugatuck Brewing Co. – Kalamazoo (SBCK) will be hosting a weekend of celebrations from Thursday – Sunday, beginning October 1st. The event, coined the ‘Mega Final Grand Reopening Celebration Weekend’ will include specialty beer tappings, food and beer specials, a showcase of new and renovated food menus, and a special community donation series.
During the month of October, SBCK will be giving back to the community of Kalamazoo and honoring Emotional Wellness Month by making donations to Gryphon Place of Kalamazoo. Gryphon Place’s mission is to help people navigate conflict and crisis, foster resiliency, restore community, and support healing.
Despite reopening amidst a pandemic, the employees of SBCK are excited to bring to the community a place where they can feel safe while enjoying themselves during trying times.
“I am most thankful for the staff at SBCK,” continues Gillette. “They have really stuck with us through the thick and thin. There have been some tough times waiting this out, and they have all been in great spirits throughout.”
The taproom in Kalamazoo will now have an extensive list of SBC beers on tap, including staples like RADventure IPA and Blueberry Maple Stout. SBCK will also now have a variety of packaged beers to-go, including Double Dramanatrix, a 15% ABV Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout brewed to celebrate SBC’s 15 year anniversary.
SBCK will be closed Monday, Sept. 28th – Wednesday, Sept. 30th in preparation of the Mega Final Grand Reopening Celebration Weekend. The doors of the Pub will be officially reopened at 12 pm on Thursday, October 1st as Saugatuck Brewing Co. – Kalamazoo.
